Yes, but not all insurances. If you have an insurance, and we are out-of-network, you can choose to submit a Superbill for reimbursement.
The ability to accept insurance varies by individual counselor. You can find more information under the "Meet The Team" page.Superbills are available to any client seeking counseling with a provider out-of-network with your insurance.
You must complete the consents and paperwork before the first appointment. The initial session is an opportunity to review consents and initial assessments and gather information. Come prepared to talk more about your reason for seeking services, goals, and past experiences.
For clients under the age of 18 years old, an initial appointment with the parent(s), legal guardian(s), or caregiver(s) is required before beginning treatment with the counselor.
Yes, several providers will see children and teens! Flatland Counseling requires an initial appointment with the parent(s), caregiver(s), or legal guardian(s) prior to beginning therapy with minors. Several counselors in the group provide couples and family counseling. You can find more information under each provider's profile in the "Meet the Team" tab.
Yes, Courtney Walraven has a special interest in and a history of working with the military and Veteran populations. Other counselors are available according to their interests and specialties.
Yes. Appointments can be in-office, virtual, or a blend of both. A link will be provided for all virtual appointments through the Simple Practice platform.

If you or I believe medication may be helpful, I will refer you out for further evaluation by a medical provider. I do not prescribe medications.

There are many reasons people decide to seek therapy including difficulty with the following: communication, stress, sleep, relationships, processing past traumas, low mood, feeling “stuck” or “numb”, lack of interest, excessive worry, concentration, and more.
The outcomes of therapy vary, but the goal is for the client to build new skills, gain insight and awareness, learn about their symptoms, and have a reduction or elimination of symptoms. Processing past traumatic events can result in ability to overcome the feeling of “numbness” or hypersensitivity, as well as feeling able to move forward without being triggered by memories of the past. This can result in better sleep, improved relationships with family and friends, improved mood and more.
Typically, 60-minute sessions are scheduled, and they are completed in 53-55 minutes. We can discuss scheduling shorter sessions if needed.
Goals and timeframe are specific to each individual. Although we are unable to predict the length of time needed for services, you should feel involved and comfortable in the process of pursuing your goals throughout therapy. You have the right to decide to space out your sessions or stop services at any time.
Yes, with few exceptions related to mandated reporting. If you are using insurance for billing, they have the right to access information needed for billing purposes. If you decide you’d like me to disclose information related to services to anyone else, a Release of Information (ROI) must be completed.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in providing mental health medication. Psychologists, LPCs, LMFTs, LMSWs and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs) are all counselors. The approaches and specializations among these professions may differ.

Each counselor is available to offer a free 10-minute phone call to answer any questions you may have regarding each counselor's therapy services. You may contact the counselors directly to schedule this short visit.

The cost for routine appointments varies according to the counselor's level of licensure and experience. The individual counselors' fees can be found on the individual counselor's page. You can find out more by visiting our "Meet The Team" page.
We have a firm 24-hour cancellation policy, including for the initial appointment. To avoid fees ($78 initial, $104 ongoing), please notify us prior to the 24-hour point if you need to reschedule.
If you do request to reschedule within 24-hours of the appointment, it does not void the fee for the cancellation.Insurance does not cover the cost of late cancellations or no-shows.Our administrative assistant is your point of contact for billing or insurance questions. No, we don’t offer free services. Since we do not receive state, federal, or grant funding, the cost of counseling is either covered by your insurance plan (when eligible) or paid at a private rate that we’ll discuss and agree on together before services begin.
